Scholarship for Student Chapter Members


The Program

The Michiana Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management has established a scholarship program to help finance higher education for members of local Student Chapters of SHRM and is given without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, disability, national origin or any other protected group.


Applicants may be either high school seniors, high school graduates or first-year college undergraduates enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time course of study at a college or university. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and be pursuing a degree or planning to pursue a degree with an emphasis area in HR or an HR-related program (such as business, psychology or labor relations). Active SHRM Student Chapter Members will be given preference.

Scholarship Awards

The award is $1,000 and one scholarship will be awarded annually.


Students must complete the application and mail it along with a complete high school or college transcript of grades to the address below, postmarked no later than April 1, 2014. Applicants are solely responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. All information submitted is confidential and will be reviewed only by the Michiana Chapter of SHRM Scholarship Committee.

Recipient Selection

The scholarship recipient is selected on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, specifically SHRM student chapter involvement and/or commitment to the HR profession, honors, work experience, statement of educational and career goals, and recommendation by an adult.

Scholarships awarded will be based on the Michiana Chapter of SHRM selection procedures and available funds.
Selection of recipients will be made by the Michiana Chapter of SHRM Scholarship Committee. No member, whose child has applied for the award, will play a part in the selection.

All applicants will be notified of their status in late April.

Payment of Awards

The scholarship recipient will be selected at the end of April and announced at the May luncheon for the following school year. The recipient will be reimbursed $1000 upon proof of enrollment.


Scholarship recipients must enroll in their educational programs no later than Fall of the year in which their awards are given.

Revision Policy

The general conditions and procedures under which scholarships are made are subject to periodic review by the Michiana Chapter of SHRM, including termination of the program.
