New Member Welcome

    Welcome New Members/Renewing Members!!!

Thank you for joining or renewing your membership to Michiana SHRM.  As a reminder, our memberships are on a calendar year schedule.  So, you will strat receiving invitations to renew your membership during the 4th quarter.

There are several reasons why you might have joined the chapter. Perhaps you wanted:

    • a local forum for your personal and professional development
    •  an opportunity to develop your leadership, public speaking and group decision-making skills
    •  a local networking arena
    •  a focus for legislative attention to local, state, and national human resource management issues

Whatever your reason, we want to make sure that you get the full benefits of belonging to Michiana SHRM. Please take a moment to review this packet and make sure to visit our website on a regular basis at: www.michiana.shrm.org

If you find membership to be beneficial, tell your colleagues! Individuals who operate a small business or are responsible for the “people” decisions at their company can really benefit from the networking and education we offer. We also welcome anyone who has a product or service to market to HR professionals.

Here are the basics of what you need to know about your membership.

    1. The best way to get a hold of us, with any questions or concerns, is to send an email to michianashrm@gmail.com. This email is checked on a regular basis and we endeavor to respond to you within 48 hours. If you have a more urgent request, please call one of our board members directly.

    2. In order to efficiently communicate with our members, we use email to keep in touch with you. If you change companies or change email addresses, it’s important that you let us know. Your email address is also how we identify you as a member for our monthly meetings.

    3. As you may remember, membership in the Michiana Chapter of SHRM is offered on a calendar year basis, so you’ll need to renew in late 4th quater for your next year's membership.

    4. You’ll have access to a list of HR professionals and companies in your community via our members only” section of this website.  We are currently updating our website with new member login information. We will send you a username and password for this portion of the site, please be patient with us! If you are a renewing member, your username and password have not changed. If you forgot your password, or this login doesn’t work, just email us.

The membership list is updated monthly and allows for you to tap into a local network when gathering information on how other local organizations handle various human resource situations, procedures, policies, etc. We ask that you don’t use this list for solicitation purposes (ie mass mailings or phone calls). However, you can use it to re-connect with someone that you met previously at a meeting. If your company has a product or service that you’d like to present to our membership, contact us about sponsoring a monthly meeting, speaking at our conference, or other opportunities to more formally get connected with others.

    5. You’ll get access to the Michiana SHRM LinkedIn page with discussion forums for answers to your HR questions. Just search for Michiana SHRM on the LinkedIn website or click here: Michiana SHRM LinkedIn and ask to join our members-only group. You can also join us on Facebook and Twitter for updates and member community.

    6. We generally schedule our luncheon meetings for the 2nd Thursday of each month and try to hold our meetings at the Windsor Park, 4020 Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN. Each of these professional development opportunities improve your HR competencies and advance yourself professionally.

    Meetings

    *certified for credit

We always try to have our meetings certified for SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP/PHR/SPHR/GPHR recertification credits and try to offer at least 5 strategic credits each year.

    7. You’ll receive Up-to-date information on pending federal and state legislation that may impact your company’s operations. This includes updates direct from an Employment Law Attorney who serves on our board. Look for these updates at each luncheon meeting and via email.

    8. We have several committees that you can be part of. Develop your leadership skills and volunteer for the: conference planning committee, legislative committee, diversity committee, finance committee, business continuity and disaster preparedness committee, workforce readiness committee, membership committee, social media or other committees that may form in response to a need to advance the profession and serve the professional. We need a variety of people on these committees to make sure we have a good perspective. You also get recertification credit for actively participating in chapter committees.

    9. You get FREE Job Postings on the Michiana SHRM website. Just send your job posting to us via email.

    10. We offer annual Sons and Daughters Scholarships to benefit the children of our members – applications are generally available in the late spring.

    11. Do you need more information on how to become a certified HR Professional and discounts on certification preparation classes? Good thing you are a member of Michiana SHRM, you get both. Just contact us for more information.

    12. Michiana SHRM is also your resource for the following benefits– just send us an email at michianashrm@gmail.com:

    13. HR generalists and specialists who provide information that might otherwise be difficult and/or expensive to obtain

    14. Detailed, updated information on state and local labor market conditions and issues.

And last, but not least, just a reminder that membership in a SHRM local chapter is separate and apart from membership in National SHRM. We encourage you to become a member of both! The resources available through National Membership are amazing. How about a hotline staffed by HR experts that you can call anytime you are stuck, or just need that reassurance of what you are doing? Looking for model policies and procedures? How about up-to-the minute information on legislation and a voice in the legislature? If you aren’t a member of National SHRM, just visit their website at http://www/shrm.org/join for more information.

Contact me any time you have questions about your membership in Michiana SHRM. I’m happy to have you with us! - Becky Ragsdale, PHR, VP of Membership.
