LOCAL HUMAN RESOURCE CHAPTER WINS STATE AWARD

    September 1, 2015
Press Release: South Bend, IN, September 2, 2015

The Michiana Chapter Society for Human Resource Management was awarded the prestigious 2015 Chapter of the Year Award by the Indiana SHRM State Council at the annual conference on August 26.

Eileen Shue, Chapter President, accepted the award on behalf of the 2014-15 Board who successfully implemented several initiatives of benefit to the HR profession and the Michiana community, including hosting their 5th Annual Executive Leadership Forum, 14th Annual HR Conference and co-sponsoring LeadMichiana.

In addition, the Chapter’s Diversity Committee, in partnership with Goodwill and the BLN, hosted an interviewing workshop and job fair for members of the community with disabilities. The Workforce Readiness Committee worked with several educational institutions and non-profit groups to help prepare students for life after high school.  Committee members worked with Five Star Life on College and Career Vision Mapping and mock interviews, giving students an opportunity discuss skills they needed for whichever path they took after graduation.

The Chapter also financially supported Bridges Out of Poverty by raising money to help low income individuals purchase copies of their GED diplomas for job search efforts and purchase clothing needed to comply with employers’ dress codes.

The 300 members of the Michiana Chapter represent over 200 businesses in the Michiana region.  As human resource professionals and strategic business partners, they assist their companies in providing a wide range of expertise from recruitment, wages and benefits, rewards and recognition, safety and health, organizational and employee development, diversity and workplace law.  To learn more about Michiana SHRM and upcoming programs scheduled for 2015, visit www.michiana.shrm.org
